Christmas House Tour

Finally: it’s time to show off the Blue Cottage with a Christmas House Tour!

I took so many pictures, there’s no space to show you every room, but you’ll get a good idea how I decorated our new home in general and then added Christmas decor.

Our living room fireplace is massive, and I’m having a lot of fun decorating it for every season.

This year I just used Christmas decorations I already had. Except for those accent pillows from Target and Country Antiques.

If you follow my thrifting adventures on my blog and Instagram, you’ll notice a lot of items I bought for just a few dollars at thrift stores and tag sales, like the wooden shovel, the two houses, silver candle sticks, and the bird cage.

My absolute favorite latest find: this amazing Goodwill leather chair for $27.

This orchestra of little hand-painted German angels is a collection that grows every Christmas thanks to my mom.

I’ve waited a year to use these placemats after I bought them for pennies at Kohl’s after Christmas last year. L and I made paper snowflakes yesterday and taped them to our front windows, and they look just like this white snowflake.

I changed up the table setting again with a “deer” theme because I think these plates from HomeGoods are so cute. I just added a few little paper deer on the plates and the table, plus my wicker deer from a tag sale, and exchanged the red napkins with beige ones for a more monochromatic look.

Ideally, I would’ve liked to use a white tablecloth, but I didn’t feel like removing everything off the table.

The mercury glass monogram ornaments were also just a dollar after Christmas at Kohl’s, and I bought as many as I could for an added little gift for family members and kept two D’s and one L for us. I hung the L on the back of L’s chair.

This plant is from Trader Joe’s, after it bloomed. I like buying these because they are very hearty and will bloom again. I just added a red ribbon, some fake greenery, and crystals on the table.

Our Christmas tree is loaded with every ornament we have.

This sits on my decoupaged sidetable next to our sofa and usually holds my coffee cup when I work.

I didn’t decorate much in the kitchen, just added this cookie jar and egg timer, and a little Santa is sitting on my vintage glassware.

A little bit of Christmas in our downstairs powder room, which is next to the kitchen and utility room. I had the earthenware and simply added vintage-inspired stickers to some of the items. So simple and inexpensive.

 

I found the perfect spot for our stockings on our staircase window. And all of the little houses I’ve picked up at Goodwill last year magically fit on the estate-sale, vintage table.

And this is what our bedroom looks like right now:

This little hand-painted box was $3 at Goodwill and is disguising a box and cable for the lamp.

Don’s mom was going to give away this dresser years ago and I’m so glad I rescued it.

We used to store all of L’s cloths in it in the old place. It was brown, and my mom and I just painted it with Annie Sloan chalk paint when she was visiting.

It’s the perfect spot for my most prized possession: this vintage teddy bear belonged to my Dad when he was a little boy.

He sent it to me to keep me company one weeks after I moved away from home for the first time, straight to America.

I also want to paint the HomeGoods mirror white eventually.

That’s the door to our bathroom, and across from us is L’s bedroom.
