Boy’s Turquoise Room – Kid’s Room Color Ideas

After showing you our farmhouse kitchen, it’s time to show off Landon’s turquoise room! I’m slowly working my way through every room for our Blue Cottage house tour.

My friend Kelly took beautiful pictures of L’s room recently, and I’m excited to show them to you.

 

L’s room is pretty big, with large closets on both ends. It’s a rectangle and this picture shows you one end, with the larger closet running the whole widths of his room.

 

 

When it was time to think about which color to paint his room, I knew I didn’t want a blue room.

Anything but blue. So I decided on this pretty turquoise.

It took me forever to finish painting his room because I’m no good at cutting in and had to tape up the ceiling so many times. I’m pretty proud of how it turned out.

 

 

This is my old IKEA bed I bought ages ago in LA via the Pennysaver.

When I finally put it together again after we moved to New York, I got a big surprise: I thought this was a twin bed, but it is about 10 inches bigger on the side and on the bottom.

It’s so old, it’s a size that doesn’t even get made anymore by IKEA. And they don’t make mattresses for it anymore, of course.

So I bought a new twin mattress at IKEA (one without toxic fire retardants) until we replace this bed, and for now I stuffed the extra width with some blankets.

 

This is the other end of the room

 

I eventually want to paint that closet a bright orange because I love the combination of turquoise and orange, plus orange is L’s favorite color.

For now it’s painted in the very light blue I also painted our bedroom.

Remember when I bought this IKEA TV stand? I knew that it would work perfectly to show off L’s LEGO and Playmobil toys.

 

 

And does this tower of three stools look familiar? Yes, I did go back to the store in Cape May and bought them!

 

 

I couldn’t get them out of my mind, plus the store owner gave me a special deal because this was the last one, so for $125 they were mine.

 

 

This is going to be L’s homework corner eventually, once he gets old enough to do his homework alone. I’m going to move the red chair somewhere else and replace it with a desk.

 

 

This crate is perfect for L’s toy car collection and I want to mounted it on the wall behind his door. It’s really heavy, so I’m going to ask Don to do this — he’s the expert carpenter after all.

 

 

So this is L’s turquoise room! It has a great view through his large windows and he’s a pretty lucky boy to have such a big room.

I was debating to put curtains on the windows but then decided that that would make the room feel smaller and distract from the view.

Furnishing his room was really inexpensive. You know me, I know where to finds great deals on about everything — and I probably only spent $400 in total for L’s room.

The biggest splurge were that yellow stools shelf.

What color is your kid’s room? I’m really happy with this color.
