I love super-easy DIY projects. Those are the ones I have time for, and those are the ones I create for you to enjoy or to be inspired by. Here is another one: a Valentine’s Day banner that only takes 5 minutes to make.
Valentine’s Day Banner With Vintage Playing Cards
I always want you to feel like you can do any of my projects without needing much skill, materials, or time.
Decorating for Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be elaborate.
Remember the Valentine’s Day centerpiece I just threw together?
You can make this Valentine’s Day banner with (vintage) playing cards in just a few minutes — no glue gun required.
The kids can help you with this, it’s that easy.
I reused vintage playing cards, but you can use new ones, of course. You can usually find them at the dollar store, for example.
I’ve accumulated several vintage decks of cards during my thrifting trips, and for this banner I repurposed cards from a small kids-size card deck.

Valentine’s Day Banner Tutorial
Supplies you’ll need:
- hearts playing cards (I love these white playing cards)
- yarn or ribbon or jute
- Valentine’s Day-themed dimensional stickers
- mini clothespins
I bought the stickers, red yarn, and red clothespins at the craft store for a few dollars each, and combined them with the little playing cards.
I left enough of the see-through backing of the dimensional stickers on them so they are actually not sticky and can be used again for another project.
Decide where you want to hang the banner. In my case it was our mantel, and I measured how much yarn I’d need. I added some extra and then cut the yarn to that length.
Then I just played around with how I wanted to arrange the playing cards and the stickers.
Since I used clothespins, it was super easy to change my mind and change the spacing of the cards or the order of them.
When I hung the banner on the mantel, I adjusted it again, and this is what it looks like right now in our living room.
I also used the little clothespins to attach the banner to the runner on top of our mantel. Easy peasy. Done.
Cute, right?
Do you decorate for Valentine’s Day? Even if you usually don’t, this banner is a perfect first project to tackle. It would also make a cute gift.
It would look sweet in many other spots of your hours: on your headboard, above a door, or draped over the back of a chair.
