A closet makeover can be a lot of fun — and after you are done, you are so happy you tackled organizing your closet!
In this post, I’m showing you my before, during, and after of our bathroom closet makeover with boxes and baskts.
Closet Makeover — Bathroom
We have lived in the Blue Cottage now for 5 years, and we are slowly making it our dream home.
This house is small — we don’t have a basement or a garage, not even a shed yet. But thankfully we do have a lot of closet space.
Which means they are usually filled with a lot of things.
I like being organized, and our upstairs bathroom closet needed help.
As you can see, the bathroom is so small that it’s hard to take pictures in it. I stood in the bathtub to get this shot.
We also have a downstairs powder room.

The right door is the entrance to the bathroom, and the left one is for the closet.
It didn’t look like this in the beginning, but this is what the inside of the closet looked like yesterday. Ugh.
The “before”: mismatched boxes, and sheets, pillowcases, and extra toiletries just stuffed into the closet.
I had been planning to make over this closet, and when I saw these Kassett boxes at IKEA, I stocked up.
I knew they’d transform the closet, and they only cost between $4 and $7 for a set of two.
You can buy similar paper storage boxes on Amazon.
So yesterday I got to work and put the boxes together. It takes a little while because they are held together by small screws.
Then I took out everything that was in the closet, decided which linens and towels had seen better days to give to our local animal shelter, and decluttered the boxes that were in the closet.
They were filled with extra toiletries and first aid remedies.
I then used a credit I had at KMart to buy a few new fluffy towels and was ready to transform this closet.
It only took me about 10 minutes to make it look like this. Ta-da!! Welcome to my organized bathroom closet makeover.
I’m loving the look of these boxes because they hide all the clutter.
I use a Command hook on the inside of the closet to hang up some of my necklaces.
You can buy them in white, brown, silver – any color that works best with your closet or bathroom.
I love Command hooks so much better than other hooks – no drilling required, you just stick them on, and if I ever change my mind, I can easily remove it, without removing any paint.
Aside from the white boxes, I wanted to include baskets in the makeover because they add the cozy cottage charm.
You can buy this set of three baskets in many different colors:
I remembered that I had bought two large baskets at a tag sale months ago. They might have even been freebies. I cleaned up one of them, put it on the floor in the closet, and it’s perfect for large towels and blankets.
Next: I added a vintage picnic basket I also bought at a tag sale weeks ago to one of the shelves.
Here is similar deep basket for larger items that goes with the other set and comes in different colors:
Can you guess what it is disguising? Rolls of toilet paper.
I do like how the rolls peak out of the baskets in our laundry closet, but I didn’t want them showing in this closet.
Aaah, an organized life is a more relaxed life.
This was a couple of hours of work in all, but so worth it. Now I’ll be moving on to the next closet.
What do you think? Is this how you would have organized this closet?
Which area in your home needs a closet makeover? You don’t need to hire a professional organizer to declutter your home – just tackle one area at a time so it’s not too overwhelming.

The “before” photo looks like my bathroom closet – from the size, shelves, and random things just shoved into whatever nook and cranny possible! I’m very impressed with how great it looks “after”! I have been wanting to pull everything out of mine to organize it but have been very intimidated by it. You gave me the push I needed to finally decide to tackle it. Thanks a lot for the inspiration!

Looks gorgeous! Clean and organized spaces make such a difference in your mindset. Cluttered spaces make me feel more stressed and rushed.

Looks fabulous, I love using baskets to help with storage challes. We have a very large closet in the family room that needs a ton of work. Everything from party tables kitchen overflow, tons of craft supplies. It’s my next task.
