Can we talk ugly lamp?
Queen Elizabeth-hat ugly.
Tada! I bought this glass lamp a while ago for just a few dollars at a tag sale, and doesn’t it have the ugliest lampshade ever? Shudder.
I want to bust out laughing when I see that lamp shade. It’s so ugly, it’s kind of pretty, right?
But I liked the base — glass and crystal lamps are really popular right now, and I like the vintage touch of this one. I knew this would look cute with a different lamp shade.
The other lamp base is from a Meyda Tiffany lamp like this one. I bought it for $3, and I’m thinking of spray painting it white.
Should I?
I recently picked up these two lamp shades to see if I liked the look of them for the two bases.
Hmm. I wasn’t sold on the gray lampshade with the modern pattern. I’m not sure that one will work with my cottage look.
It would work in my office/craft room, but it’s too big to be on my desk in there.
In the end I decided to use the smaller lamp shade on the glass lamp, and I’ll look for a smaller lamp shade for the other base. I might use it on my bedside table.
Which lamp shade would you prefer?

Great job on your lamps, Dagmar! Thank you for the party!

Hi Dagmar–I love both the lamps, but I’m with you, a bit unsure about which shade is right. I sort of feel the one you settled on might be a bit too short, but it may be the angle of the photo. Thanks so much for hosting :)

Dagmar, that lampshade is almost so ugly that it is cute! LOL! I wonder if you could do something with the original shade like take off the frou-frou and paint it. Just a thought! I love the 2 lamps.
