What do you do when you have extra time on your hand? I start organizing my home. Enjoy these organizing ideas for every room.
Organizing Ideas for Every Room
My posts about storage and organizing ideas for your home are hugely popular — I guess many of you either need ideas or love organizing as much as I do.
The coffee table you see in the above picture is perfect for storing Landon’s many Playmobil and LEGO toys, and I was able to find it in the As Is section at IKEA.
Here are more organizing ideas I’ve found for every room in the house that might help you to organize your home more efficiently.
My dream home would have all of these — wouldn’t that be amazing?
Organizing Ideas for Every Room in Your Home
Entryway:
You can add a bench with storage basket in the smallest entry hall to maximize space — something we never have enough of in the Blue Cottage because we don’t have a basement or a garage.

Living or dining room:
I have large wicker baskets like these under my coffee table to hold magazines and blankets.
Kids room or craft room:
Organizing toys or art and craft supplies becomes so much easier when you have the right storage for them!
I love this idea of using vintage crates to take advantage of wall space. I have several crates I use for craft supplies and to display small vintage collections.
I like using shoe organizers in several rooms in my house. The one behind our pantry door is where I store my many scarves.
You can use it in the pantry for herbs or small items, in the bathroom for all your toiletries, in the craft room for a ton of items, etc.
Living room, bedroom, or reading nook:
Adding crates or a shelf to the wall as a bed side table or in your living room creates clever and unique storage.
Here is an organizing idea for walls with crates:
Kitchen, home office, or craft room:
Repurpose a plate rack to store folders, cook books, or magazines.
A small tension rod can do wonders for storage in many situations, as you can see here.
Bedroom:
I love this hidden headboard storage! IKEA sells one for one of their beds (we bought this bed with a ton of storage for Landon).
If you are a little handy and have a solid wood headboard you could create this yourself by moving the headboard away from the wall a bit and adding a shelf to the top.
Closets:
This is how I organized our coat closet to have enough storage for all our most important shoes and coats.
I recently found this carousel organizer and can think of several rooms this organizer would come in handy — for shoes, scarves and gloves, craft supplies and toys.
Which one of these storage and organizing ideas do you love the most?

Hi, just discovered your blog yesterday as you have the same name as a relative of mine. I am really interested in the off set shelves picture but cannot find it in your links. I want to know what or how they made the alphabetical storage for disks or could be dvds? Also love the idea of board games in book-like boxes. Do you remember the picture being credited to a blogger showing answers to my questions? Granted I know it’s 10 months later and perhaps you do not remember…just hoping you’ll reply.

I am drooling over every single one of those organizational ideas. The one of the craft room had me giving out an audible “Ooohhhh!”
I am definitely an organization nut. It just makes life much less hectic. And frankly, things are prettier when color-coded and labeled :)
Dagmar says
I totally agree!
