When I was recently mentioned on The Talk show, I was reminded that that really wasn’t the first time I was on national TV. Over 15 years ago I was an extra in the Seinfeld episode “The Doorman.”
Yes, that was me: blonde, bangs, baby fat :)
I have never seen that episode again in all these years and it just hit me that I can probably find it on YouTube. Sure enough, I found it in seconds.
I had just moved to America with two suitcases and an address of an illegally run hostel in my pocket and was working as a nanny for one of the Seinfeld writers. One day he asked me if I wanted to be an extra in the Seinfeld episode he had just written about a bus full of German tourists.
I moved to Los Angeles to study acting, which I did for a year until I went to college, so of course I wanted to be in the episode!
As the only real German in the group, I was able to help out the older lady who had a few lines with her pronunciation. Naturally, I didn’t stay in the room all of us where supposed to hang out in and instead wandered on the set and watched the street scenes being filmed.
I had a bit of a crush on Jerry Seinfeld — he was so handsome and funny, and I thought he just had the most beautiful smile and teeth. I never missed an episode of Seinfeld.
Oh, the memories of those first few years in America, what an adventure that was.
The story is coming full circle as I was just invited to a fashion event in NYC with Landon that Jessica Seinfeld and Stella McCartney and a few other fabulous women are hosting.
Maybe I’ll get a chance to talk to Jessica. Should I mention that I think her husband has beautiful teeth?
