Okay, so I broke down, I exercised.
When I found myself in the car at 9:00 this morning I could not believe I was actually driving to a tennis class, but the offer was so enticing, I couldn’t resist. A local gym was offering a three-weeks “Instant Tennis” class that meets twice a week. It’s only $99 and I get to use all of the gym facilities and classes during that time. And they offer free childcare if I need it.
I’m going to learn to play tennis in nine hours? Not very likely. At least not well. But if this gets me into the gym a few times in addition to the classes, it’s worth it. I have to fit into a nice dress for a wedding in two months.
There were three other beginners in class, all women. Our instructor is a cutie and very patient. I actually loved the class, and I did pretty well! After the class I worked out on a few machines.
It was nice to kind of reconnect with this body of mine that hasn’t felt like mine for three years! I was doing sit-ups for the first time in ages and had to stop myself from saying out loud, “Hello, stomach muscles, nice to meet you again! Where have you been?”
Don had picked up Landon from the babysitter and they were both all smiles when I came back. Don gets to come with me for free to hit some balls while I am in this class, so I asked him to play with me so I get better fast, but I can tell he is dreading the possibility.
He says he won’t get a good workout out of hitting with me. He is the one who has been bugging me about working out!
I told him I promise I will make him run after the balls. I won’t even have to try — they are all over the place right now!
So we’ll see, maybe Mr. Tennis Ace will honor me with a private lesson soon. I’ll keep you updated on my progress.
