A few weeks ago I wrote about going to the Gossett’s Winter Indoor Farmer’s Market at the Gossett Brother’s Nursery in South Salem for the first time. My camera wasn’t working then, but I have been back there twice now and here are some pictures. Last week I went with just Landon, but this Saturday Don, Landon and I, plus my sister-in-law and two of her kids went to have some fun.
This market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. It encourages buying local food from family farms to foster community growth and self-sufficiency.
I bought a lot of vegetables for a soup, and some bread, and Don bought a quiche that was so delicious, I am buying more next time.
Landon loved the sausages from Grasin’ Angus Acres, so we bought a package. Don and I are both basically vegetarians now, but since L is a picky eater and their meat from grass-fed Black Angus has 10 times the beat-carotene than other meat and 60 percent more omega 3, I’ll be glad if he eats it when I prepare it for him.
After going to the market, we went into the little nursery tent and the adorable Cottage Antiques. They are open all week. L loves running around among the plants, and I can’t get enough of all the cute things they sell in the store. The owner, Lisa Miller, a designer who has worked for Calvin Klein and others, has a knack for decorating everything so beautifully. She still had Christmas decoration for sale, at 50 percent off, and I bought two ornaments.
There was a table full of cute Valentine’s Day gifts. See that little picture with the buttons in the shape of a heart? It now hangs in our entryway.
If you live in Westchester or Connecticut, check out the Gossett’s Market for great produce, baked goods, jelly and jams, and much more! And don’t forget to stop by the nursery and adorable gift shop. You’ll find something to buy for every occasion, and it’s a great outing for kids and adults.
