After the stressful passport drama, Landon and I arrived in Germany two days ago.
Don drove us to JFK airport and the flight to Duesseldorf was pretty uneventful except for an hour delay sitting in the airplane, but the wind was favorable and we got there in 6+ hours instead of 8.
After we went through security, I bought some goodies for myself…
…and L got to open a little surprise bag I had put together for him.
Both of us watched movies and TV shows the whole flight, and only L got an hour of sleep at the end.
We reached our flight to Hamburg just in time, they were boarding already, and L was allowed to try out the co-pilot seat.
He fell asleep for that whole flight, only one hour, and was so tired, he wouldn’t open his eyes for me. I had to almost carry him out of the plane.
Tired little dude.
We collected our suitcases and my mother greeted us with open arms and drove us to Bremen, another hour+ away.
After we got settled in her house, we took a short nap in my childhood bed, had some food, and found my brother’s old Legos in the attic, which L has been playing with since.
This is how yesterday ended: I enjoyed a coffee and Country Living Magazine on the sofa in front of the TV with my mother…
…and this little guy fell asleep next to me. Long day.
It’s been wonderful to visit with my mother and my brother, and enjoy German food I miss all year: steamed potatoes, quark, Mohnkuchen, black liquorish, Toffifee, marzipan…
The weather hasn’t been that great, it’s North Germany after all, but I’m hoping for some sunny days without the inevitable rain. I need to walk off all that good food.
Today my aunt and cousin came as well to stay with us for a few days, and we enjoyed hanging out with them.
Stay tuned for more from our visit. I’m looking forward to visiting the local flea market this weekend. Wonder what treasures I will find.
