Westchester’s Best — Places I Love in Westchester, NY

Muscoot trail and clouds

Places I Love in Westchester, NY

I have no intention to compete with other sites that list everything in Westchester, New York.

This is a list of places, services, and people I love here in Westchester, in the beautiful Hudson Valley.

I list them for free, but advertising is available and encouraged on this page.

Free Fun with Kids

Muscoot Farm — (Somers) Great working farm to bring  the kids to! Cows, horses, pigs, chicken, sheep, goats, geese, tractors. In the summer they have a small farmer’s market on Sundays. Hay rides and pumpkin picking in the fall. Check out their frequent, free, special activities. They also have a trail for a short hike that’s fun with young kids. Rte 100, Katonah/Somers, NY. Read my article about it here

Gossett Brothers Nursery Farmer’s Market — (South Salem) Organic produce, grass-fed beef, pasture eggs, artisan cheese, wholegrain breads, local artisans, native plants, baked goods, fairtrade coffee, and local honey.

I could spend hours in the cute Cottage Antiques gift store right next to it. 1202 Rte 35, South Salem, NY, market Saturday 9-1 p.m. year round! Read my article about it here

Home Decor/Gifts/Jewelry/Candles/Fragrances

Ebba KatonahEbba — (Katonah) If you are in Katonah, definitely check out the adorable boutique Ebba on Main Street! Need a special gift but don’t know where to start? Viktoria will find the perfect one for you in this amazing little store! And you can also order Viktoria’s famous line of candles and fragrances online. I wear her Miss Marisa scent — like Kourtney Kardashian.

Brannon Conza Photography — Newborn, child, family & pet portrait photography, using natural light, on location. Brannon took picture of L and they are absolutely stunning.

Brannon serves Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties in NY and Fairfield county in CT. Dagmar’s Home readers enjoy 15% off her already affordable packages. Just tell Brannon I sent you! brannonphoto at gmail.com and 845-418-2528.

Flower and Floral Design

Heather Maguire Floral and Botanical Design — (Katonah) Heather created stunning, personalized, upscale, but affordable cut flowers created in pretty keepsake vessels/containers, and hand-tied bouquets, mantle pieces, and centerpieces. Check out her website for samples and special deals. 914.826.6085 and hmag74@optonline.net.

Bellizzi — (Mount Kisco) Great Italian food and an arcade and toddler room. You get to relax over a coffee with your husband or girlfriend while your kids are safe and have fun right near you. Try the delicious Blogger Salad — I’m the red bell pepper! Read my article about it here

Bedford Post Inn — (Bedford) I love this place! Richard Gere, the owner, frequently eats here since he just lives around the corner. The more casual Barn features local foods, organic coffee, and baked goods. I adore the decor — elegant, classy, but very inviting. There is an outdoor patio and a yoga studio upstairs. The restaurant next door is stunning and has a small bar. 954 Old Post Road in Bedford, NY.

Pour Cafe and Wine Bar — (Mount Kisco)  Looking for a cool place to meet your girlfriends in the evening? Look no further! This bar/cafe in a beautiful building on Main Street is known by local moms as the place if you want to have a relaxing evening. Anthony, the owner, is a part of the Bellizzi Blogger Salad as well. Main Street, Mount Kisco, NY.

Once Upon A Child — (Balwin Place/Somers) This store is HEAVEN for all frugal moms! OUAC buys and sells new and gently-used, quality checked baby and kids clothing (infant up to size 20), furniture, toys and equipment. Bring your used items and get money on the spot, no appointment necessary. The owners Tina and Craig offer all the big brands for a fraction of the original price, and their selection is enormous. 80 Route 6, Baldwin Place, NY 10505, 914-621-0003.

Other than it’s location on Lake Worth, as oppeosd to the ocean, it’s not bad as far as Palm Beach goes. An intelligent, compact floor plan that’s generous without being ostentatious.Other than the dearth of dirt (and the fact that the adjoining waterfront flag lot appears available as it seems to be still undeveloped), the rather too mannered fae7ade with its trained-to-within-an-inch-of-its-life ivy is the only other fault I can find.Sounds like Mr. Mottola is engaged in a hobby that could satisfy my most deepest & darkest (non-sexual) desires namely the buying, rehabbing, decorating, showing off & moving on of real estate ownership.Unfortunately it’s a little more pricey that scrapbooking, which does not appeal to me.

Very cool of you to send attention to these local businesses. I am sure they appreciate the support.

Love your choices – all dead on! I am one of the lucky ones who met Richard Gere while I was Bedford Post with a friend shortly after they opened. He stopped at our table and spoke for a few minutes – just to thank us for being there! Yes – I was star-struck. Thanks for sharing your favorites!

I’d like to make you aware of my our three year old venture; Pony Express To Go in Pleasantville. We strive to make sustainable fast food an easy, fun and delicious part of everyone’s life.

We support our local community and local food producers (Pickelicious, Dines, The Green Market, Good Bread Bakery), we recycle and encourage our customers to do the same (our Zero Trans fat oils are used for bio-fuel), we provide to-go packaging that is bio-kraft/recycled packaging and we feature beverages without corn syrup.

All our food is made on premise and cooked to order using 100% all natural and organic products.

Our goal was to create a place where you could eat with your family every day/week and feel comfortable doing so. From organic hot dogs and bacon from Dines to no hormone and no antibiotic beef in our burgers and chili.

Our Kids Hoppy Meal features organic fruit roll and a small bag of organic cookies along side of their choice of hot dog, slider or all natural chicken.

If you haven’t checked us out, feel free to stop by. We received a Best of Westchester 2008, a glowing review from the NYTimes and numerous social media accolades (yelp, urbanspoon etc). But only you can decide what you like, so give us a try, and then share your thoughts with your community.

I have a special fondness for Pour Mt. Kisco as that’s where I went to my first tweet up. Bellizzi is awesome, too. And, love going to Muscoot w/ my niece.

Next time, when you expand/add, you may want to do favorite shopping spots/stores/malls or maybe even great parks for kids.

Pigford June 18, 2010 at 1:58 PM

Haven’t been to Bellizzi, but I look forward to going soon. Pour, on the other hand, I’ve been to a handful of times and I love Pour! It’s got ultra-chic energy, but is a totally unpretentious and understated. Anthony, the owner, is a super individual, and his friendly and open personality sets the tone for his place. The crowd there is always warm and fun and you’re bound to have quality interactions over some great food and a glass, or two of their wisely chosen wines.

Brannon May 24, 2010 at 2:50 PM

I have been dying to try out both Bellizzi and Pour Cafe & Wine Bar – seems lots of people endorse them.

Thanks for the list – I always love a good tip on where to go/what to do. :)

Heather Flournoy May 21, 2010 at 12:32 PM

I love Bellizzi too! So relieved to have a place to take friends who have kids with gluten sensitivities, and my favorite pizza for myself is the whole wheat crust with wild mushrooms.
