Landon will turn 11 years old in October — and I can’t believe I have a tween boy!
His many plush animals and LEGOs are all still in his room, but I’m mentally preparing myself that it’s just a matter of time before he wants black walls and, I don’t know, a disco ball.
Shudder. (Not happening, BTW. He’s already been informed.)
But back to his colorful tween bedroom update.
Turquoise Tween Boys Bedroom Update
We updated his bed last year to a full-sized one he can grow into for years.
I chose a bed without a footboard for a reason because I figure we’ll get a few extra years out of it if he doesn’t hit the footboard once he gets taller.
This new bed doesn’t have a headboard either, so I created a faux headboard with colorful lights a few weeks back, but Landon said he misses the headboard.
So I repainted the old, brown headboard white to match the bed, added fun finials to it — and we added a new mattress yesterday that arrived in this box.
Landon’s bed is an IKEA bed with slats instead of a box spring, and we only had a thin mattress on it. I like firm beds, but his was really too hard.
I’m so thrilled Dorel Home Products sent us this Signature Sleep Gold mattress — perfect timing!
This mattress in a box is only available at Walmart, conveniently ships in a boxed roll to your home, is a great value for the price, and super comfy.
My favorite feature — apart from the fun of seeing it expand to a big mattress in just minutes once you cut the plastic — is that it’s made with CertiPUR-US certified foams
- without ozone depleters
- without PBDE’s, TDCPP flame retardants
- without mercury, lead, or other heavy metals
- without formaldehyde
- without phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
- low VOC emissions for indoor air quality (less than .5 parts per million)
That’s a long list of things I definitely don’t want Landon to sleep on every night.
And yet, this mattress only costs $149.99 and comes with free shipping! So it’s a better mattress than many other matresses, it’s more environmentally friendly, and it costs less.
Landon and I cut the packaging open and enjoyed watching it expand.
And this is what it looks like now. I also switched out the storage boxes in front of his bed with this storage ottoman Don and I had in our bedroom because I found a really nice bench for the foot of our bed.
The mattress is 8″ thick, and now the sheets are finally fitting right – they didn’t on the mattress that was half as tall.
Landon slept great on it. What an inexpensive way to get more comfortable sleep.
Did you know that according to the National Sleep Foundation, we should replace a mattress at least every 10 years – and earlier if you don’t sleep well?
If your bed needs an upgrade, or your children have outgrown their mattress, check out this budget-friendly Signature Sleep Gold mattress at Walmart.
You can pick it up yourself or have it shipped to you.
We are really happy with it.
