I made all-natural, homemade hand cream for the first time today, and it’s so easy!
You only need two ingredients.
After watching someone make this cream on the Home & Family show a few days ago, I couldn’t wait to try it myself, since my hands are so dry every winter, and I especially like that it doesn’t have any additives and toxic ingredients many store-bought products have.
Plus, this will be a wonderful gift for my mom, my mother-in-law, and three sister-in-laws and nieces for Christmas.
You don’t need to add essential oil, but I thought adding calming lavender oil was a nice touch, and I already had it at home.
Homemade Hand Cream Recipe
Pure shea butter is pretty hard, and I softened it a bit in our toaster oven to make it softer.
If you are using a microwave, make sure you lower the heat and just warm it up a bit, just a few seconds.
Simply mix 1 cup of softened shea butter and 1 cup of room-temperature coconut oil into a bow with a hand mixer until it’s fluffy.
Then you can add the essential oil, about 10 drops.
One thing I’d do differently next time: I bought unscented shea butter, but it has a smell I’m not crazy about, so the next time I’d buy a different brand or scented shea butter. That way I don’t even have to add essential oil.
Since I plan to give away this cream as gifts, I looked for small containers. My first choice were small, quilted mason jars, but I couldn’t find them.
Instead, I found these little plastic containers that are for bead storage at the craft store, and they might be even better since they are lighter and more portable.
I also saw those Santa suit muffin cups and thought they’ll be great for gift wrapping.
I filled all nine of the plastic containers with the homemade hand cream.
Ta-da! Easy homemade shea butter and coconut oil cream.
This is how I gift wrapped the creams: I stacked three creams on top of each other, put them into the muffin cup, added a little blingy wallet and fake berries to the bags, and closed them with a big ribbon.
I encourage you to make a batch of this homemade hand cream yourself! It was really fun.
Pin this for later!
