Yes, things look a lot different — I FINALLY redesigned the look of Dagmar’s Home, with a Hello You Designs theme!
You have no idea how long this has been in the works.
When I started my blog in January 2009, I had done weeks of research to find just the right theme for my blog before I even started.
I wanted to get it right the first time — it had to be very flexible, and I needed to be able to do all of the webdesign work myself.
Back then, there were no YouTube videos you could follow to figure things out, or other blogs that taught you all you needed to know about designing a website.
Designing a blog from scratch was a pain seven years ago.
I didn’t have the budget to pay a web designer, and I didn’t want to have to learn to code, so the theme I came across that gave me all the options I wanted was the Thesis theme.
I have been able to customize it all these years, but after six years I was running into limitations and had to add plugin after plugin to keep it working. A plugin to make it mobile responsive, a plugin to load it faster…
To keep growing Dagmar’s Home, I had to find a new theme. And I had to move to a Genesis theme.
Would I be able to work with a Genesis theme, after so many years of using Thesis? Would moving to Thesis hurt my SEO? Would all the posts and comments still be there?
I was really worried. This blog pays the bills — what if I screwed it up?
I looked for a year and finally found a theme that had it (almost) all: this is the Hello Sweets Theme from Hello You Designs.*
Dagmar’s Home’s New Theme By Hello You Designs
Hello You Designs offer designer-quality WordPress themes for the female entrepreneur. Every theme is built upon the Genesis framework and comes with lifetime theme support.
The designer, Jennifer, is so kind and helpful. All of her blog designs are so beautiful, it was hard to choose one. And they are really affordable — Hello Sweets costs $65.
In the last few weeks, I uploaded and tried out the theme on my test site. I was too nervous to do it on my live blog, and Jennifer emailed back every time I had a question.
And I had a lot of them, because I wanted to customize Hello Sweets to make it look like my original blog as much as possible — with much better functionality, mobile friendly, and less plugins.
Since I practiced for hours on the test site, I was able to redesign Dagmar’s Home last week in just a few hours.
Pardon the dust and excuse things not looking quite right for another few days as I change the header, the fonts, and a few other things.
I hope you like the new look — I really love it. It’s faster, and I also like the mobile version of the theme so much better than what I had before.
What do you think? I welcome your input.
