Sun Protection Tips — Banana Boat® Has You Covered

Sun Protection Tips -- Banana Boat®Summer is here! Three more weeks and Landon will get out of school.

It’s getting warm here in New York, and I’ve started to put sunscreen on L before he leaves for school, the pool, or when I know he’ll be out in the sun for a while.

I’m a bit of a fanatic about sunscreen. I don’t leave the house without sunscreen on my face, even in the winter, because I have melasma and get dark spots right away if my skin is unprotected.

The payoff after years of daily sunscreen wearing? I still don’t have many wrinkles and look younger than many of my friends my age. I really think that avoiding the sun and diligently wearing sunscreen has a lot to do with that.

My biggest fear about Don’s and L’s trip to Australia last winter was that they might get sunburned. It was summer there after all, and Aussie sun is very intense.

And they did — after a couple of days at Uncle Tony’s lake house, Landon had a pretty bad sunscreen on his face and arms. And sunburns that you have as a child are the worst for your skin.

That could have been easily prevented by one or two more applications of sunscreen.

Let this summer be memorable for all the fun you have as a family, and not sunburns! Sunburns are not fun.

I stocked up on more sunscreen for this summer the other day at Walmart. Walmart has you covered for everything summer. I literally buy sunscreen in bulk so I have a tube everywhere. Somehow, they disappear all the time, don’t they?

I like Banana Boat®’s Baby Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50, Banana Boat®’s Natural Reflect Kids Sunscreen Lotion™ SPF 50 and Banana Boat®’s Protect & Hydrate Sunscreen Lotion™ SPF 15 and 30 because they get good ratings from the Environmental Working Group.

What kind of summer adventures have you planned? Trips to the beach, a picnic, a road trip, or camping? Whatever you do, just make sure sun care protection is a part of it.

Banana Boat® has you covered, literally. Make sure you always apply sunscreen liberally.

Important Sun Protection Tips to Keep in Mind

  • Make sun protection a priority. Sunscreen does more than protect against sunburns — it protects against long-term effects like skin damage and skin cancer.
  • Good sun protection requires 1 oz. (2 tablespoons) every 2 hours on the entire body 30 minutes before going outside.
  • Reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or excessive sweating.
  • Plan ahead! Before heading to your family outing, consider how long you will be outside and how many times everyone will need to reapply. Bring sunscreen for all outdoor activities: hikes, bike rides, swimming, or fun in the backyard.
  • Banana Boat® has some great products that offer multi-skin benefits, like water-resistance, ease of application, and comfort.
  • Make sunscreen application fun for kids, like having a little song you sing. It keeps them engaged and makes it feel like less of a chore.
  • Banana Boat® sun care products are tested in seven conditions – sun, pool water, ocean water, wind, sweat, sand and extreme heat – to provide safe and effective broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection for the entire family.

Which family activity are you looking forward to the most this summer?

Have the best summer ever!
