Real Simple Beauty & Balance Event in NYC

Real Simple Beauty & Balance event 2015

On Friday, I got pampered in NYC.

Real Simple magazine invited me to a special beauty event for bloggers, so I put on some skinny jeans and boots, and got on the train to Manhattan.

I sometimes forget how fun it is to get dressed up — this event was a nice reminder.

It was warm enough to just wear my fake fur vest instead of the winter jacket I’ve worn for too many months now. I dusted off another pair of boots after I ruined my favorite ones the other day while landscaping, and added my wood watch, several bangles, and a colorful scarf.

The event wasn’t far from Grand Central Station, so I walked the few blocks to the hotel the event was held in.

The first beauty treatment I got was a Khaleesi braid with Aveda products…

Real Simple Beauty & Balance weekend 2015Did you know that Real Simple is celebrating their 15th anniversary? It was the first magazine I ever subscribed to, I think. I love everything about it: the articles, the layout, the practical tips…

We used to live only 15 minutes away from each other, but she moved to Long Island. Definitely check out her blog  The New York Mom. She is blogger and dancer, creative and crafty, and the combination of her adorable kids and their large St. Bernard is a must-see.

New York City libraryMy two men did a double-take when I got home, because I had so much makeup on.

Here is a fuzzy picture I took late at night of what I looked like, with curls from the braid after I took them out.

Curls don’t usually stay in my hair for more than 10 minutes, unfortunately, so I was enjoying them, but L said he wanted his old mommy back.

What do you think, should I give curls another try? Do you have any tips that might make curl stay in my long hair? I’d welcome them.

Thank you, Real Simple, for inviting me to celebrate 15 years of your fabulous magazine, and for pampering me.

BTW, don’t miss this: I’m giving away part of the goodie bag I got at the Real Simple Beauty & Balance event!
