Haven conference 2014Haven Conference 2014 Recap – Day 1

I haven’t blogged in days because I flew to Altlanta for the Haven conference, the conference for DIY bloggers.

I was so busy the whole time that I just didn’t have time to blog. The three days were filled with catching flights, taking notes in sessions, tweeting, and Instagram.

But now I’m home and can’t wait to blog about the conference. Gosh, I learned so much again.

Blog conferences are good for my soul because only bloggers understand what it takes to be a blogger. And they are so important for learning more about the next steps I need to take to grow Dagmar’s Home.

Thanks again to my sponsor ClosetMaid for paying part of the conference costs.

When I arrived, I met up with my roommate Lynn Fern, got freshened up, and we went to the Ballard Designs Haven Newbie reception. It was hot and muggy and I asked the bartender for the perfect refreshing summer drink — a Radler (half a beer with lemon soda, try it!).

Haven conference 2014It was nice to meet a few other DIY bloggers before I fell into bed. This cookie from the Haven conference swag bag was dinner that night.

Haven conference 2014, MoenThe next morning, we had to get up early to grab some breakfast before the opening talk at 8:30. After meeting Rhoda two years ago, it was wonderful to finally make it to her conference!

Haven conference 2014Then HGTV’s Chip Wade took over and told us a bit about his show Elbow Room.

Chip Wade at the Haven conference 2014I haven’t watched the show yet, but he has done some stunning transformations for sure, like this pool with movable panels.

Elbow Room at Haven conference 2014His talk didn’t have much to do with blogging or DIY we bloggers can emulate because Chip has a huge budget, but it was fun to see his projects.

bloggers at Haven conference 2014Then it was time for the first session: Blogging Trade Secrets. I took so many pictures of the slides during this session, I’ll write a whole post about it soon.

Make sure you subscribe to my email list so you don’t miss that post.

Haven conference 2014We had a quick bite to eat…

lunch at Haven conference 2014…and then took a few minutes to check out the booths of the conference sponsors.

Haven conference 2014Next session: Making Money with Blogging with Dan R. Morris. So informative, about analytics and how important it is to study them.

The last session I decided to go to was Amping Up Your Ad Income with Andy Marzka. It was another hugely helpful session about how to make money with affiliate ads.

Haven conference 2014

Haven conference 2014I had spotted a Maggiano’s across the street when I arrived, and Lynn and I had dinner there. This was one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles, Don and I went there several times before we moved to New York, and it was like a walk down memory lane.

Maggiano's Then it was time to party!

Haven conference 2014

Haven conference 2014I’m not much of a party girl, but I had another half of a drink and danced a bit. I don’t even remember the last time I danced. And there was even a fun Haven rap/song and dance.

So fun to read through this. I felt like I was right back in Atlanta soaking up every minute.

Can I tell you that the picture on your header of you and your blessing is SO precious? Love it!!

Aw, Jen, thank you so much for your sweet compliment! Guess I won’t be replacing that picture after all during my rebranding? :) Look out for a whole post on your session, I learned SO much.

Jen @beautyandbedlam.com July 15, 2014 at 11:45 AM

haha – well, on the picture and rebranding, it speaks to who you are and if you still want to incorporate the family side (which it seems you do), then definitely. It draws me to you and makes me want to learn more. :)

Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality July 14, 2014 at 11:07 AM

I’m so glad you came to Haven this year and loved it! It’s so exciting to see it grow like it has and we loved all the speakers this year. Lots of good info was shared. Glad we got to catch up for a bit, it was great to see you!

Dagmar Bleasdale July 14, 2014 at 11:32 AM

Dear Rhoda, every single session I attended was amazingly helpful – I have so much to do now, which is a good thing! This info will make a huge impact on my blog, I just know it. Wonderful to run into you several times and thanks again!

Dan R Morris July 14, 2014 at 3:45 AM

Dagmar Bleasdale July 14, 2014 at 11:36 AM

Dear Dan, I really learned so much. Analytics are not my friend and I’ll be digging into all the services you offer – I’d love to hire you. Amazing dance moves! :)
