Marriott Helps You Discover More of New York City

by Dagmar Bleasdale on December 25, 2013

If someone would ask me where I’d want to go on vacation, my answer wouldn’t be Hawaii or Nepal: I have been wanting to go away for just two or three days forever, close to home so there isn’t much planning or a plane trip involved. That’s my idea of a vacation.

I would love to take a trip to romantic Vermont, or see more of New York. The truth is, we moved to Westchester, NY, six years ago and I’ve only ever made it to Manhattan in all those years.

It’s sad that I still haven’t seen more of all the boroughs of New York City and I live so close to this amazing city!

I’ve never been to the Statue of Liberty or stood on the top of the Empire State Building. I’ve been to a lot of places all over the world, but Staten Island or Queens? Not yet.

Marriott created several of these gorgeous Destination Content pieces — and look at all the things I’ve been missing!

I don’t have to go far — NYC lets you experience so many parts of the world. I didn’t know Broolyn was originally called Breukelen, after a town in the Netherlands.  And being from Germany, I never knew about the Killmeyer’s Old Bavarian Inn in Staten Island — I’d love to check out their food. I bet their bread and pastries are divine. Strudel, anyone?

Don was born in the Bronx and has lived in Manhattan, so he really knows his way around New York City. If we stayed in one of the Marriott hotels in NYC for a few days, we could simply walk out of the door and he could show me so many neat places.

I remember when I strolled through Manhattan for the first time with Don, hand-in-hand and noses frozen, when we were first dating. He had flown me to New York to meet his family in Westchester for Christmas, and we took the train to NYC so he could show me around Manhattan.

It was wonderful to discover his favorite places and learn more about his days as an actor in musicals. He wore this dark coat and looked so handsome, and somewhere between Rockefeller Center and having coffee at Edgar’s Cafe I fell in love with this gentle man.

Maybe 2014 will be the year we find time to discover more of NYC together.
