Big day yesterday: Don and I bought a HOUSE!
It’s been 3+ years in the works — I’ll spare you the boring details.
I was itching to blog about this development the whole time but I’m so glad I didn’t — you would’ve all been bored to bits about how slow this process was.
But here we are, and I’m still kind of in shock that we finally signed the contract.
And we are already moving! I’ve been slowly boxing things up for weeks, and we started lugging boxes today. For tomorrow we rented a truck for the big furniture pieces, and my brother-in-law and sister-in-law are coming to help.
The good thing is that we’re not going far this time — 6 years ago we moved from Los Angeles to New York — but it’s still the same amount of work.
Well, minus having to rent PODS, me flying to NY with a 6-month-old baby, shipping my car, and Don driving his truck cross country.
Don worked on the closet shelves today, it’s pretty handy to have a finish carpenter husband, and I had to pull up a whole house full of paper that covers the wood floors, and vacuum. Took me all day to get the construction dust out of the house.
If you follow me on Instagram (DagmarBleasdale) you might have noticed my frequent trips to Home Depot and Lowes, and pictures of the design of the kitchen. Now you know why :)
Just two days ago I went to Lowes again, and I finally found the shelves I want to use for open shelving in the kitchen. Don is still not a fan, but I’m not giving up on my wish to have four open shelves framing the window above the farmer sink.
After not being able to find shelves that were affordable, the right size, and sturdy enough for dishes, I decided to create my own with wooden brackets and a precut piece of shelf that I’ll have Don cut in half. All in all the material cost me $75 for 4 shelves.
Tomorrow we’ll be sleeping in our house for the first time, and I can’t wait. Now I can finally put this house number planter I made on the porch.
Welcome to our Blue House!
