My Visit to Country Living Magazine’s Fair in Rhinebeck, NY

by Dagmar Bleasdale on June 14, 2013

Country Living Fair, Rhinebeck, NY, 2013After writing a blog post for a client last Sunday, I couldn’t wait to get in the car and drive an hour to Rhinebeck, NY.

I had been looking forward to this for months: the Country Living Fair was in town! You already know how much I love the Country Living magazine.

Don and L weren’t interested in going, so it was just me and these stunning clouds — I couldn’t have picked a better day for a road trip.

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, I apologize for all the pictures I took — gosh, was I in heaven.

And so inspired by all the vendors. And renewed in my belief that selling vintage and handmade items is in my future, in a larger scale than just my Etsy store and my candles in local stores.

I just feel so at home in that kind of environment, and I adore the country living decor style so much.

It’s cozy and not fussy, you can mix all kids of items, and having grown up in a house full of antiques in Germany, I crave the historic aspect of this interior design style.

When I saw the big 4-H signs on every barn, I wished L had been with me. He would have been so proud, my little 4-H-er.

This was one of my favorite: a booth filled with cool furniture made out of several repurposed furniture pieces. Don and I could make these, if I could just get him on board.

As an avid thrifting, junking, tag sale, and vintage lover, I obviously can’t get enough of HGTV’s “Cash & Cari”, and look who was at the fair, with her own big booth!

Cari was so sweet and I told her how much I love her show, and she said I should make sure to tell HGTV that. Consider it done!

I also saw but didn’t speak to Ben Ashby, publisher of FOLK magazine. I bought the current issue and was thrilled to see Rhoda from Southern Hospitality featured.

There were a couple of interesting presentations by Country Living staff, but I just had a few hours and was more interested in seeing most of the vendors.

I bought several vintage paper good items from this vendor.

How sweet is this handmade little guy? But he was over $100, and I’m saving up for a big purchase (hint!), so he wasn’t in the budget.

This vendor had many great ideas for using all kinds of vintage papers and photos. I took mental notes, a lot.

After hours of walking around and buying some treats for my men, I headed home. I can’t wait for the next Country Living Fair close enough to us so I can visit.

Have you ever been to a Country Living Fair?

So sad I did not get to go because I was booked with family events all weekend! I hope they come back next year. If you ever want to come to Rhinebeck during the week, e-mail me and I’ll give you a tour and we can have lunch! (And be sure to come back for the DC Fair in August — your son will LOVE it, especially if he is involved in 4-H).

Love your eye for color, texture, and fun! It’s great to see so many photos from the Country Living Fair. Our booth was in the Main Barn #31, and it was so busy that we couldn’t get around to see the Exhibitors -or even to eat! Glad you had a good time, we did too!

Hi Ann, thank you do much for your kind words! I love your site, and your logo is so pretty. I’m sure it was exhausting to be at the fair for 3 days, but glad to read you were so busy! I can’t wait to go to the next CLfair – I hope they’ll be back to Rhinebeck next year. Best, Dagmar
