I’m Back! My First Day at the BlogHer’12 Conference

by Dagmar Bleasdale on August 7, 2012

I’m back from BlogHer’12 — it was a total whirlwind. I would have liked to blog from there, but the Internet connection in the hotel room was sooo slow, I had to wait until now to blog about my three days at the conference.

Thanks again to my wonderful BlogHer sponsor this year: Little Pima! Check out their beautiful pima cotton baby layettes, super-softest blankets, embroidered onesies, and newborn baby gowns.

Taking photographs has become so much easier since I now mainly take pictures with my iPhone and Instagram. Here are a few to give you an idea of the kind of day I had Thursday.

After dropping Landon off at summer camp, and being a little sad that I wouldn’t see him for three days, I rushed to pack up my last few things and get on the train, already dressed for my first event.

BlogHer’12 didn’t really start until Friday, but I had four BlogHer-related events to go to on Thursday. I dropped off my suitcase at the Hilton and walked straight to the first event, hosted by the lovely ladies from Trumpeting Media, past these ladies.

The room was packed with blogging friends and amazing sponsors. One product that intreagued me was FitBit, a fitness gadget that tracks all your activity — even your sleep! I would love to find out how much I actually wake up during the night, and how much sleep I get.

Beaches Resorts and Sandals Resorts? Yes, please! I wouldn’t say no to a vacation there, especially since Beaches Resorts is family friendly.

I wish I had had the time for a massage or manicure, but I was too busy saying hi to friends.

I ran into my wonderful friend Maria, who is pregnant and I’m so thrilled for her! She moved from Westchester closer to NYC, and Westchester hasn’t been the same since. I miss her and her cute daughter Lily.

After that event, I walked back to the Hilton and checked in, met my roommate Gina, and walked to the next event — a party by Stonyfield Organic Yogurt and one of my favorite organizations, HealthyChild.org.

I wish I could have stayed longer because I had such a wonderful time chatting with everybody about the dangers of GMO and food dyes, but I had to catch a taxi to the next event.

Momtrends had invited me to their swank Style Suite event, featuring CAbi clothing, in a stunning high-rise suite of the London Hotel.

We were pampered with a hand massage, makeup, and got to try out CAbi clothing items to take home. Nicole’s events are always over the top and fun.

Here I am with Angela Chee, the Zen Mom, who I had the pleasure of sitting next to.

Nicole looked stunning, as always.

This is me after a makeup artist put some lipstick on me — quite red, eh? I felt pretty in my new $25 dress I had just bought days before.

And then it was time to walk to the last event — the exclusive Big Toy Book SweetSuite event held at the super-secure Viacom building (Home to Nickelodeon and MTV) in Times Square.

You had to be walked up to get to the event, which was filled with representatives of many toy companies.

After enjoying some free frozen yogurt, I got some shots on the outside terrace, overlooking Times Square.

My blogging friend Mitch, who blogs at Gay NYC Dad and links up to my Wordless Wednesday posts, was nice enough to walk me back to the hotel.

By now it was pretty late, but of course Times Square was still buzzing with people. It wasn’t easy to maneuver through the crowd with full swag bags, but Mitch and I had so much fun talking, it made the walk go by pretty fast.

Back at the hotel, I couldn’t wait to throw off my shoes and sink into bed to get some sleep before the real craziness of BlogHer’12 would start early the next morning.

{I attended events hosted by Trumpeting Media, Momtrends, Stonyfield, and The Big Toy Book and received samples for review. Opinions are my own.}

I enjoyed our time together as well, I love getting to know people better, and isn’t it amazing that we could grab a few minutes in the midst of such craziness!
Now I am writing Little Pima for a giveaway!
thanks!
Mitch

By the way, it was GREAT to be your roommate – people, Dagmar is a lovely & gracious lady, and KNOWS her stuff when it comes to health! Thanks for helping make Blogher’12 great for me, Dagmar, and thanks for the shout out!

Dear Gina, so wonderful to room with you. Your computer cable is on its way :) Thanks so much for your kind words. Are you planning to come to BlogHer in Chicago next year? Strong possibility for me.

And people, Gina knows her stuff about SEO!

Ah, so that is what it’s like to be a veteran BlogHer attendee! I was a newbie.
