My Juice Cleanse: Day 1

by Dagmar Bleasdale on February 19, 2012

I’m doing it: I made it past Day 1 on my juice cleanse.

Inspired by Joe Cross’s Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead documentary, in which he documents his journey of only drinking fresh fruit and vegetable juice for 60 days, I started my own juice cleanse yesterday.

Don is done with his seven days; I want to do three.

I lost 2.5 pounds yesterday, and that’s good motivation to keep going, even though I know that’s mostly water weight.

Physically, I felt fine all day yesterday. I was expecting to get a headache from not being able to have coffee, but that didn’t happen. I was a little hungry, but I wasn’t nauseous, which I was dreading.

The mental aspect is a different story. First of all, you have to simply remember not to put anything in your mouth. I’m a grazer, I usually eat something many times a day, and I have to remember not to grab for something. It’s such a habit. I almost ate a piece of carrot while I was making my juice, but I caught myself in time.

I was home by myself all day yesterday; Don took Landon and that’s just how it worked out. I think that made it easier on one hand, no one was eating muffins next to me, but the day also felt really long.

I don’t know what was wrong with me, but I ended up watching a cooking show, which I hardly ever do, while working on my computer on the sofa.

The evening was the hardest. Your mind definitely plays tricks on you. I wanted to eat something, and I thought: “I just want something healthy, I don’t even want cake or something bad! Can’t I at least have something healthy?!”

But I didn’t give into temptation, and I’m glad.

How much juice do you drink?

I drink about five glasses of freshly squeezed juice, and I water it down a bit. I don’t mind drinking it, I actually like it. I make one of them very green, with tons of kale, spinach, celery, and less apples or other fruit.

I do “cheat” with green tea. I’m always so cold, and yesterday I couldn’t seem to get warm at all. I was freezing although it was 71 degrees in here, and I just needed something hot.

Since I can’t have coffee with lots of milk, which I usually drink several times a day, I made about four cups of tea throughout the day. I use Celestial Antioxidant Max green tea.  I left out the milk, but I sweetened it with a little bit of raw, organic honey that has minerals, vitamins, enzymes. Since I can’t take vitamins right now, I figure it’s a good thing to at least get some from my tea.

Let see how well I do on Day 2 of my juice fast. Right now, we are off to go for a hike.

Would you ever do a juice cleanse?

I could handle a bodybuilder’s diet for four months, but there is no way in heck I could ever do a juice fast. Interested in how you feel when it’s over & if your hubby keeps the lbs he lost off. Stay strong!

Good for you! I want to do my juice fast again. We did ours and simply ate veggie dinners….I couldn’t do the juice all day every day thing! I’m excited to see your results!
