A Fun Day With Santa, the North Pole, and the Bedford Post

by Dagmar Bleasdale on December 17, 2011

Last year, Landon climbed the North Pole and dropped off his letter for Santa for the first time. Today was Don’s last Saturday of teaching ESL classes all day, and I wanted to do something fun with L. So we drove to Gossett Brothers Nursery to see Santa again.

L wanted to send off the letter first…

…so he climbed…

…and climbed…

…and climbed…

…to the top and put his wish list (Lego and Playmobil)…

…into the mailbox.

We were just on our way to the gift store to see Santa when we heard bells and “Ho-ho-ho.” Santa had come outside to greet us!

This time, L wasn’t afraid at all of Santa.

Santa was so nice, he got one of his elves to take a picture of all of us. Smart Santa.

And then L ran into the little nursery, and I got to look around the gift store.

Of course there were so many cute gifts that would have looked wonderful in our house, but I just bought two ornaments: this camera for my brother in Berlin, who is a photographer…

…and Landon wanted a bulldog ornament. As long as he doesn’t ask for a bulldog for Christmas–

At the indoor farmer’s market, L ate a pickle on a stick — after he had downed the big candy cane Santa had given him. And I bought bread, muffins, apples, and pears.

On the way home, we went by O2 Living Cafe for a $10 smoothie (gulp) and checked out The Yellow Monkey, an antique store.

It was lunchtime and we still had hours to kill before Don would come home from teaching. I wanted to really treat myself, so I braved going to Richard Gere’s The Barn at the Bedford Post Inn with Landon.

He behaved just fine, and there were actually a lot of other little kids in there.

L wolfed down the burger and fries — I helped a bit — and I got a much-needed coffee.

Another fun day with my little boy in Westchester, NY.

What a fun day, together! That will be a great memory for you both! I love that picture with your son putting his Christmas list into the mailbox!

That barrel of pickles makes my mouth water! Yum!
