Change Your Clock — and Your Smoke Alarm Battery

by Dagmar Bleasdale on November 5, 2011

Last week, Landon and I took the train to NYC. You’d never guess who we went to see. He’s pink and plays the drum.

The lovely ladies from Moms & the City had invited us to meet the Energizer Bunny at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan to bring awareness to fire safety.

Landon adores firemen and firetrucks. Two years ago he was a little fireman for Halloween and we have gone to 1, 2, 3 open houses at local firehouse.

So how could I say no to such a fun event? And I finally got to sneak my favorite Land’s End coat on him :)

We got to explore one floor of the Children’s Museum after hours. The Energizer Bunny showed up and a sweet firefighter informed us about fire safety and the importance of changing the batteries in our home’s fire alarm and carbon monoxide detectors.

For the last 24 years, Energizer has teamed up with thousands of fire departments to remind people to “Change Your Clock Change Your Battery®

Please take a minute to replace the old batteries and making sure that your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors work when setting back the clocks from daylight-saving time!

Too many tragic accidents happen because people forget to do that one little thing — home fires kill about 500 children under the age of 14 each year.

So funny that the register says “Kasse,” the German word for register. Since it is made of wood, I’m sure it was actually made there.

We took a taxi and the train back in rush hour and were both totally fried from our adventure in the city.

It was already L’s bedtime when we got back to Katonah, but we had to walk past the Pizza Station and so I figured, what the heck, let’s have fun and get pizza (L’s favorite food) late at night.

I love hanging out with my little boy. Thanks again for inviting us, Moms & the City!

And look, our picture made it into the NY Daily News (picture credit)!

Okay, this is done! I put a reminder on my Google calendar to buy batteries two weeks before the next time change, so that we are ready!

Have a great week!

Great reminder about the smoke alarms. I am putting a post-it note on the cabinet for hubby to get them tomorrow while I am at work!
