I Want to Be One Of the Top Eco-Friendly Moms – To You

by Dagmar Bleasdale on April 15, 2011

Do you think I belong on this list?

Top 25 Eco-Friendly Moms

I want to be one of the Top 25 Eco-Friendly Moms to you — regardless if I make it on the list or not.

Update: I made it on the list! A huge thank you to everyone who voted for me!

I grew up in Germany, without food dyes and six different bins for recycling for everything from glass, paper, and plastic, and I guess being green is just a way of life for me.

I often can not believe the waste that is being generated in the U.S. — it makes my stomach turn. I will never forget seeing the mountain of trash that was generated after only one lunch period in a high school in Woburn, MA, when I was a teenager on a school exchange.

Since then I have been on a quest to educate people about the things they can do without much effort to help our environment. It’s so easy, healthier for you and your children, and being green will save you money !

Now that I have a platform to reach more people with Dagmar’s momsense, I often blog about being green and how being frugal also means being green, by using less resources.

In my latest column for the Examiner I wrote about the importance of teaching kids to be green. I feel very strongly that I have the responsibility to be a good example and to teach my child — the next generation — about recycling, reusing, conserving, and sustainability. I want my son to have respect for the earth and to really understand that we have limited resources.

I want Dagmar’s momsense to be a resource for parents and share important information that I come across. If you have never looked at the information I have compiled on my Healthy Living or Green Living page, take a look around when you have a minute.

Do you want to find out which makeup or sunscreen is not toxic? Want to make sure your kid’s toys haven’t been recalled for lead paint? You can find out on those pages and I will continue to add more.

I also use my Twitter account and large reach (almost 13,000 followers) to tweet and retweet about green living and keep a list of “green” people. I was glad to get many tweets from followers who weren’t aware of how toxic air fresheners are until reading my blog post about that. It feels great to have made a small difference.

Thanks to a lot of you who voted for me, I made it on the  Top 25 Eco-Friendly Moms list. Being recognized as on of these moms and bloggers means a great deal to me. Thank you!

I tried to go back but it remembered me and wouldn’t let me vote again today. Would if I could.

Dagmar, you really deserve to be on that list. And I’m not just saying that because we’re friends. You’re an excellent source for green and frugal living. It’s obviously not a new trend or bandwagon that you’ve jumped on. This is a life-long dedication to living in a more frugal way and being friendly to our environment. I’ve been voting for you. Good luck! :)
