While spending another long night blogging, I came across a hilarious and wonderful mommy blog last night: Dooce.com, by Heather B. Armstrong.
I added her link to my blog and told Don about it today, that I love her witty writing and photographs, and what do you know — only hours later Don passed me an article about blogging in Newsweek that mentions Dooce (“Time to Hang Up the Pajamas“)!
Apparently, Heather is making up to $1 million in ad revenues a year! Say it with me — wow! Good for her. Guess I know a great thing when I see it.
Interestingly enough, the Newsweek article by Daniel Lyons is all about how he blogged for two years and didn’t make much money after pouring his heart and soul into his blog (and gaining 20 pounds, ouch).
Even at 1.5 million visitors a month, he didn’t make much more than $1,000. Guess that means I need to make a quick 5 million friends to make writing Dagmar’s momsense worth my while!
I checked out Dooce again today and was happy to see Heather’s next entry (I can understand how people get addicted to this blog). It was about not having chosen her unborn baby’s name yet.
I could not resist, I added comment number 424 (now do you believe me this blog is popular?):
“We always knew the girl name, Emerson (Emma). We both loved that so much. After I found out we were going to have a boy, I had to tell my husband (who did not want to know the sex) because I didn’t want to have to make up a name on the fly after he was born. So Landon it is, after Donald played around with his own name. I gave in. The next boy will be Finnley.”
Now that I have my little Landon, I couldn’t think of a better name for him, of course.
